Wellington/Tasman Celebrates Victory in Armstrong’s Over-50’s Cricket NZ Tournament.
Proudly sponsored by Armstrong’s as its major naming sponsor, the 2023/24 Armstrong’s Over-50s Cricket IPT reached an exhilarating conclusion as Wellington/Tasman emerged victorious, defeating Auckland by an impressive 160 runs. The match was a rollercoaster of skill and determination, showcasing the spirit of Over-50’s Cricket.
Auckland initially had Wellington/Tasman on the ropes, reducing them to 37/3. However, an outstanding performance by Wellington/Tasman’s captain, Scott McHardy, who scored an impressive 83 runs, helped the Firehawks reach a solid total of 231/8. Auckland’s Mike Harrow put up a good fight, taking 4 wickets for 40 runs. Unfortunately, Auckland couldn’t match the target and ended up scoring only 71 runs, with Neil Ronaldson contributing 23. Richard Petrie was the star bowler for Wellington/Tasman, taking 4 wickets for just 13 runs.
This win marks Wellington/Tasman’s second IPT triumph, with their first victory dating back to 2019.

In the battle for third place, Canterbury/Otago secured a win over Districts. Districts struggled to chase down Canterbury/Otago’s total of 219 runs, falling short by 16 runs. Standout performances included Robbie Frew’s 64 runs and Ben Warren’s 4 wickets for 36 runs.
The Division 2 final saw Canterbury/Otago comfortably securing the title by defeating Wellington/Tasman by 5 wickets. Wellington/Tasman’s Tom Lancaster scored 60 runs, but their total of 159 was chased down by Canterbury/Otago’s Chris O’Connell, who scored an impressive 74 runs.
Throughout the tournament, spectators were treated to an impressive display of Armstrong’s vehicles at various playing fields in Dunedin. Ranging from luxury cars like Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Opel, to the rugged Land Rover, the showcase added an extra element of excitement to the cricket festivities.
The tournament’s climax was the highly successful prize-giving ceremony, where the New Zealand and New Zealand “A” sides for the upcoming Quad Series were announced. The ceremony featured an incredible display of Armstrong’s vehicles, leaving many players and attendees yearning for their own trophy in the form of a stunning Armstrong’s vehicle. It was a fantastic way to wrap up an exciting tournament that celebrated great plays and camaraderie in the world of Over-50’s Cricket.
