An international voluntary airbag recall on over 100 million vehicles fitted with Takata airbags was issued in 2013 which affected over 452,000 vehicles in New Zealand, 12,000 of which are still yet to be fixed*.
In response to this, the New Zealand Government has issued a compulsory recall of approximately within New Zealand that are fitted with a specific model of Takata airbags called “Alpha” that are deemed to be a higher risk. Takata Alpha airbags were fitted to some vehicles manufactured between 2001 to 2006.
Which makes and models are affected?
The Takata airbag recall affects certain models of vehicle brands including Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, & Jaguar.
